LPWebServe – Web-based Automated XML, SGML, Word & RTF Typesetting
Web-based XML typesetting facilities were first introduced in late 2003. Since then this widely used function has seen enhancements in both hardware and software, culminating in LPWebServe, the latest version released late in 2008.
The protection of clients’ valuable data is ensured via a substantial investment in IT infrastructure. This comprises a very large data storage capacity and a robotic tape library providing backup and archive facilities, as well as a complete, off-site disaster recovery plan. The aim is to provide an uninterrupted service, available from anywhere in the world, any hour of any day.
Automated batch routines using PERL, Web 2.0 and AJAX, surround the core XPP Web Services utility from SDL. These generic routines, written by Letterpart and easily tailored to each client’s specific needs, gives them the lead in this market. Very competitive ‘per page’ pricing, low setup costs and very fast delivery are the main benefits of this web service.
LPWebServe allows a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to send XML, SGML, Word or RTF files via the Internet, twenty four hours a day, for immediate processing against predetermined style guidelines. Resultant files are sent back promptly as PDFs, and/or Word/RTF format files if required, for printing or further processing.
Depending on the type of publication involved, various intelligent routines can be utilised to enhance and expedite the processing of the submitted files. This means that a wide range of publications can take advantage of this facility.
A unique web login allows the SME to sign in to their own, Letterpart controlled, FTP site.
The SME is then presented with upload options which allows control over:
- Submission of single or multiple files
- Concatenation of split files
- Publication Builder
- Changing file order
- Updating or deleting files
- Setting left- or right-hand pages
- Page numbering.
The latest version of LPWebServe has two main new features:
- No restriction in file size, either for upload or download
- Customer specific control files are no longer a requirement.
