Publishing Software Solutions
Over the years Letterpart has acquired a high level of expertise within the publishing industry, specifically with the pre-print data manipulation and compilation processes. To assist with production and delivery in terms of efficiency and shorter production cycles, several different software packages are utilised, the main one being XML Professional Publisher (SDL XPP) from SDL (formely XyEnterprise).
Letterpart has maintained a close relationship with XyEnterprise Inc. both as the first power user of XPP in the UK and as a member of the XyUser Group Board of Directors. In addition, Letterpart recently entered into a reseller agreement with XyEnterprise Inc. whereby Letterpart will represent SDL XPP in the UK.
To this end, Letterpart is now pleased to be in a position to offer an all-encompassing solution to organisations that wish to keep pre-print functions in-house rather than outsourcing them. A turnkey operation can be supplied incorporating various automated batch routines, off-the-shelf software, consultancy, implementation, training and ongoing support.
Letterpart publishing solutions are best deployed in organisations who currently embrace, or wish to embrace, XML standards, and who produce high volume, complex publications with features such as tables, footnotes, mathematical equations, tables of contents and indices as some of the more usual requirements.
Typical users of publishing solutions include:
- Publishing houses of all sizes, especially legal publishers or those producing volumes of loose-leaf material
- Publishers of professional scientific or medical journals, text books or catalogues
- Publishers of dictionaries or directories
- Developers producing large volumes of technical documentation
- Manufacturers that issue product and service manuals.
Data can be from the client’s internal content management systems or from external sources such as remote editors. Simple or complex workflows can be set up that are specific to the client and/or the publication.
The SDL XPP-based solution can be stand-alone or used in conjunction with a content management system such as SDL Contenta and/or a delivery platform such as SDL LiveContent, using DITA and/or S1000D standards if required.
XML Professional Publisher
SDL’s XML Professional Publisher (XPP) is the best-in-class software for the most complex and demanding publishing applications. An automated XML publishing engine, SDL XPP delivers proven, scalable solutions for global leaders in the publishing, technical documentation, financial, government, high tech, aerospace and defence industries. SDL XPP is a key component of some of the most sophisticated, high-production publishing systems in the world
SDL Contenta
SDL Contenta is an award-winning software solution that manages the life cycle of creating, maintaining and delivering content through multiple channels. Users can dynamically create, reuse, manage and assemble multi-lingual XML content and documents for automated publishing to multiple media. This efficient and cost-effective tool is easily configurable to address specific departmental needs. It is also scalable across the enterprise.
With SDL Contenta, organisations reuse and repurpose their content to optimise their publication processes, reduce production costs, and shorten time to publish – while increasing quality, currency and accuracy of global content. Additionally, the repackaging of content can create additional revenue streams by establishing new publication opportunities.
SDL Contenta DITA
SDL Contenta DITA is a fully integrated content management software solution that utilises the Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) for creating, managing and delivering structured content. The SDL Contenta DITA solution comes with a set of pre-defined DITA content objects, user roles and tools, as well as sample workflows. As the SDL Contenta DITA solution has the Contenta repository at its core, capabilities such as an object-oriented architecture, automated workflow and report capabilities – including version control and tracking – come as standard.
What kind of content is right for DITA? Product documentation, marketing materials, courseware and policies, to name a few. Using DITA and SDL Contenta together enables authors, editors and publishers to meet the challenges of producing large amounts of high quality content in multiple formats, for multiple products/projects and in multiple languages.
SDL Contenta S1000D
SDL Contenta S1000D is a Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) content management system that provides the Common Source Data Base (CSDB) prescribed by the S1000D specification, along with the automation and efficiency needed to deliver S1000D content reliably, repeatedly and effectively to your customers, partners and suppliers. It is used by authors, editors and programme and publication managers for the creation, management and delivery of technical information.
SDL Contenta S1000D contains an automated workflow that can clearly distinguish between work-in-progress and approved or published content, and provide status throughout the editorial and publishing process. It controls access to Data Modules based on user roles and project status, and it provides locking mechanisms to prevent inadvertent parallel editing. SDL Contenta S1000D can also manage legacy SGML and XML content written to other standards.
SDL LiveContent (formerly ContentaView)
Today’s information world increasingly demands and rewards products created from content in XML. SDL have designed SDL LiveContent so you can not only meet, but exceed those demands. How? By generating the full range of information products your users need directly from your XML, without the expensive and time consuming restructure, rework and loss of information associated with less capable formats and technology.
SDL LiveContent’s high-performance native XML database keeps your content in its living XML form until the instant it is accessed, formatted, filtered and delivered. This means that the information your users and clients receive is always current, complete and above all, accurate. Because there’s no complex or manual reformatting of your content for delivery, the path from request to delivery is short, cost-effective and fully automated.
